Sawu Sea now part of Indonesia’s water conservation programme

A3.5 million hectare sea in eastern Indonesia will be included as part of the country’s plans for a water conservation programme.

The water conservation plan, announced by Indonesia at an international conference staged in Brazil in March 2006, aims to eventually encompass a total of ten million hectares by 2010, and double that by 2020.The Sawu Sea, located off East Nusa Tenggara Province, has now been incorporated into Indonesia’s National Water Conservation Area, effectively helping the country meet its vast goal.
